Rod Beckwith — better known across the internet marketing world as "MrJV" — has been shaping the online business landscape since before most marketers even knew what "online" meant.
His story starts at the ground level. As a telephone and data technician in Silicon Valley, Rod was literally wiring up the future — laying cable inside the buildings of HP, Apple, and Silicon Graphics — while most people were still figuring out what a modem was. He started using the internet in 1988.
By 1994, while still holding down his day job at Silicon Graphics, Rod heard about a scrappy little startup called Netscape. He showed up, became their 12th person (though his badge said employee #44), and received founders' stock at just $0.10 a share. He then proceeded to design and implement all of Netscape's internal and external networks — waking up more than once with his face on the keyboard at 4am.
You know how that story ended. Rod Beckwith became a millionaire before 30.
What followed was a career most marketers can only dream about: VP of Technical Operations at ISP Channel (a public NASDAQ company), overseeing 50 engineers and building infrastructure designed to serve 1 million customers. Co-founder of Internet Systems Inc. CTO of Internet Inventions. Inventor of the Dive Inn portable changing tent — a real physical product he took to market for divers and athletes.
Then in 2002, while reading "Think and Grow Rich" for the first time, he arranged a JV partnership with one of the most successful personal achievement franchises in history — brokering a deal with a living legend. That experience lit a fire that never went out.
